Getting ready

Reception
Hi and welcome to my wedding photography pages.
I love to photograph weddings and really appreciate the privilege and the responsibility given to me to be involved in this important
day in someones life.  Every wedding is unique and everyone needs are different.
During our meeting or via e-mail we will discuss schedules of the day, as well as finer details such as any ideas you may have
of photographs you want to ensure are included.

Planning Your Wedding Photography

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

After receiving your first email or phone call, we will be able to arrange a meeting to discuss your wedding plans and get to know each other.
Some information I will be interested to ask will be:
- the number of guests that will be attending your wedding
- the number of people in your bridal party
- if children will be a part of your wedding ceremony
- what types of photos are most important for you to have
- what locations you have in mind for taking your creative photos,
and how long you would allocate to this.
All of this will help organize the photos for your day. Feel free to discuss any ideas that you might have with me.

If this first meeting goes well, and you confirm me as your wedding photographer, I will send an email with our wedding photography agreement, and an invoice for my initial deposit.

It is preferable, and recommended that you or your Wedding Celebrant  organize a rehearsal of the ceremony, that I could attend. This will help you with planning where to place your bridal party and others, and will give an indication of how long the ceremony and speeches will be. It would also give me the opportunity to discuss where I will be located during the ceremony.

Our next meeting will take place closer to the wedding day, and is usually held at house of the bride, where the bride will prepare on the day. I would prefer to see the spots where we will take photos on the wedding day at this meeting. We will also discuss the final plans for the day, and I will take practice shots of the bride.

Groups photos
How much time do you plan to allocate to take group photos on your wedding day?
It is important that you plan this ahead of time.
To help you do this, keep in mind that each group photo will take approximately 2 to 3 minutes to photograph. 10 groups will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes, and for 20 groups, about 1 hour.
It is important to make a list of all group photos that will be taken so that this part of the day runs smoothly, and you do not leave anyone out. This is especially important if you are having a larger wedding (over 50 guests). It is a good idea to do the largest groups first  so they can host the beginning of the reception as soon as possible. Also, if there are very young children in the formal family photographs, it is wise also to get these done right away as children will tend to get cranky and restless.

After this, the couple, bridal party and I will travel to your chosen locations to take your creative photos. As a photographer, this is my favorite part of the day as it is the time when some of your romantic  photographs are taken. It is disappointing when not enough time is allocated to take these photos, or when group photos run into this time.

LEAVE ENOUGH TIME
"As I said, time is of the essence and the more time your photographer has the better. They are the experts so ask them how long they think each element should take.
Group shots for example are notorious for taking longer than you expect. Having to round up a half-cut usher or a camera-shy aunt for the photos can take a while so make sure your photographer has a list of names and if possible delegate the task of helping round people up to a trustworthy usher or bridesmaid".
Getting ready: “Having about an hour and a half with the bride before the ceremony would give me enough time to photograph all the details of the dress, shoes, jewellery etc as well as take some informal photos of everyone getting. There’s always a mad rush before the dress has to go on and I like to have about 15-20 mins after the dress is on to do portraits of the bride with bridesmaids and mum before I dash off. Sometimes this goes out the window because time goes quicker than people expect and its a shame to lose those shots.”
